This Mandala was created using Mardi Gras beads that I collected this year in New Orleans.  "Life as a Celebration" seemed to me the overriding theme during this beautiful event of the human spirit.  Never have I seen so much imagination, dancing, and smiles in one place.

Don Pedro Albizu Campos, Visionario

The return of the "Visionaries" series of portraits sees a rendition of Puerto Rican Freedom Fighter Pedro Albizu Campos.  A revolutionary leader, Albizu Campos stressed the importance of cultural identity in the community as a means to unite the people in harmony and freedom.  Behind Don Pedro is my interpretation of the flag created for the "Grito de Lares" revolt of 1868.  This piece was painted using PrismaColor Markers.

Delonix regia is a species of flowering plant from the Fabaceae family, Caesalpinioideae subfamilia, noted for its fern-like leaves and flamboyant display of flowers. In many tropical parts of countries around the world it is grown as an ornamental tree and in English it is given the name Royal Poinciana or Flamboyant. It is also one of several trees known as Flame tree.
